Single Slam: Lovesong by Pathos & Logos (The Cure Cover)

The duo of Pathos and Logos are back but with something a little different. After three incredible singles; Mergers and Acquisitions, Captains of Industry and Ministry of Defense, what we have here is a cover. A cover of The Cure’s Lovesong, which is something of an unusual choice for an instrumental metal band. It will be available on Friday the 13th September.

Anyone else and I’d probably give it a miss seeing as I’m not much a of a Cure fan however, I am a Pathos & Logos fan and consider their output to be some of the best stuff I’ve heard in the last 12 months.

The Cure’s original is mellow and chilled but with their unmistakable goth-tinged darkness running through it like a thick vein of fat. Catchy, memorable and with some excellent lyrics. It seems almost impossible for Pathos & Logos to really do anything to this but by god, do they.

Keeping the core of the song intact, the simple mind-boggling thing is rather then just play the song without the vocals, they have instrumentalised the vocals. Such a unique idea, it makes this a cover that is delivers on everything we say we want a cover song to be.

We (GBHBL) always say, don’t lose the core of the song but make it your own by doing something…anything different. That is what Pathos & Logos do here and it is gobsmackingly good.

Praising the hell out of their output is becoming a bit of standard here. Their consistency in quality releases is just so damn high and even covering a song by a band that I personally don’t rate that highly, they have impressed.

If you’ve still not given Pathos & Logos a listen, stop reading this and go do that…now.
