Album Review: Dead Furies – V (Self Released)

Dead Furies is Ardo Kivi on vocals and guitar, Robert Kõrvits on bass and Mikk Kerner on drums. The band has changed multiple times musically and leaning towards post-hardcore and crossover on their newest fifth album ‘V’ but still maintaining their punk rock roots. The band feels that there is no need for boundaries. Always changing but never compromising.

The new album ‘V’ is out now.

This isn’t our first experience of what the Dead Furies have to offer but one listen of V is enough to tell all, who know the band, that this is an evolution of their sound. It’s still got rock ‘n’ roll groove and plenty of punk rock snarl but it is also their most accessible and challenging work to date. It’s a much more erratic and eccentric album, yet has that Dead Furies infectiousness that is unmistakable.

From the singalong that is 123456 and the old-school punk rocker tinged with horror that is Bringer of the Night. To the fiery energy of the grubby punk sound of Destiny and the blistering Your Kiss, Like Venom. This is an album that flies by in an exciting blur of meaty groove and intriguing tone shifts. An album that you can have a lot of fun with but also deep dive into.

V is an evolution in the Dead Furies’ sound but one that works in their favour because musically, it is much more attention grabbing. Yes, sometimes a bit of straight-forward rock ‘n’ roll or punk rock is welcome, but when you can combine that with elaborate ideas and challenging aspects, it’s great news that Dead Furies are pushing themselves… and us.
