Live Review: Conjurer with Tuskar & Sugar Horse at The Dome, Tufnell Park, London (04/11/22)

Exceptional noise-mongers Conjurer have been smashing stages across Europe throughout October and marked the beginning of November by doing the same across the UK. The last date of their headline tour, The Dome in London is the place to be. Especially as Conjurer aren’t alone. Bringing along the self-styled ‘monotonous rock’ band Sugar Horse and ear-bashing doom/sludge metal band, Tuskar, for an evening of insane head-banging music.

A better line-up (personally) couldn’t have been put together. Sugar Horse, Tuskar and Conjurer are three of the best bands in the world. Varied heaviness with fresh material to showcase. Sugar Horse with their exceptional new collaborative EP, Waterloo Teeth. Tuskar with their immense album, Matriarch and Conjurer with their ‘album of the year’ contender, Pathos.

Three brilliant bands, three brilliant sets. Beginning with Sugar Horse who take to the stage as The Dome slowly starts to fill up. The instant eruption of noise that comes from Disco Loadout, loud enough to burst ear-drums. It’s a short set from Sugar Horse and they stay focused on delivering a heavier and nosier set culminating in the brilliance of The Live Long After.

The two-piece that is Tuskar are up next and what a bloody show these guys put on. It’s still simply mind-blowing that just two people are capable of making so much noise. There are so many words to describe Tuskar but one that constantly crops up is ‘mesmerising’. They are simply mesmerising. Delivering a set filled with ear-bleedingly heavy music that gets a very grateful crowd moving. A sea of head-banging and intense pits.

On any other night, Tuskar would have stolen the show but this is Conjurer’s night and the swell from the crowd as the lights dim confirms that. High-powered, abrasive and aggressive; Conjurer’s new album has made their live show even better. The likes of Rot, It Dwells and Cracks in the Pyre sound even more enormous. Sitting alongside the likes of Retch and Choke from their stunning previous album, Mire.

Their composure on stage makes them so watchable. The focus is on the music, as it should be, and they produce some of the biggest pits seen in The Dome for some time. They’ve come a very long way in a short amount of time and this show, hell, the entire tour, has proven they are only getting bigger.

Three of the best bands in the world. Three fantastic sets. One unforgettable night.
