Single Slam: Tayne, STORMO, Kingsphere, and THROATCUT.
Today’s single slam features Tayne, STORMO, Kingsphere, and THROATCUT. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.
Tayne – Scars
Dublin born, London based Tayne announce their debut album ‘Love’, to be released 31st January 2025 (MNRK / Inside Job), with the release of ‘Scars’.
Explains Tayne frontman Matt Sutton:
Thematically revealing, honest and being open. It’s about allowing yourself to be vulnerable, showing your intimacy and not letting your baggage drag you down.
As part of the launch, Tayne will be offering 20 Tayne tattoos to fans to be tattooed by the band’s frontman who’s a resident at Kings Cross’ acclaimed tattoo shop Sacred Gold as well as Album Release party at Camden’s Home of Heavy Metal, The Black Heart, on Wednesday 5th February.
With abrasive elements, that have an industrial vibe, at the forefront but married to extreme electronica pop infusions, this new Tayne offering is every bit the perplexing experience that fans would hope it to be. It just so happens that it’s addictive, as much because it has anthemic touches, while being dreamily intense. Each new release increases anticipation for the debut album, and it is shaping up to be very special.
STORMO – Kallitype
Long running Italian post-hardcore and noise punk band STORMO has announced their forthcoming fifth album, ‘Tagli/Talee’, which is set for release on March 21 via Prosthetic Records. Alongside the album announcement, STORMO has shared the lead single and accompanying music video, ‘Kallitype’.
Speaking on the album announcement, STORMO’s Luca Rocco (vocals) comments:
This album is about cuts; about the importance of making room for things to grow. It’s a record that speaks about paying attention to what’s around you, about staying silent and observing yourself that mirrors the world around you. It’s about the importance of taking care of the empty spaces we fear most, because in those spaces something can blossom if we give it a chance.
Of ‘Kallitype’, Rocco adds:
‘Kallitype’ was written on a ferry between Denmark and Norway during our spring tour in April 2024. With its screamo touch, it’s one of the songs I’m more attached to on this new record. Metaphorically referring to plants as we did in the artwork and in the album title, we could say we chose to start presenting this new record from a new fresh leaf, but there’s also thorns and roots that go down deep.
An amalgamation of post hardcore, punk, and noise rock that, unsurprisingly, ends up being quite chaotic. STORMO’s approach is one of feverish passion, not just playing their instruments in a manic way, but delivering vocals that are raw and honest sounding. It’s a hyperactive listen, but one with notable structure, making for a more memorable listen overall.
Kingsphere – Archetype
Kingsphere, the Polish modern metal band, have released their brand-new single, ‘Archetype’.
While their calling card might be ‘modern metal’, it’s the infusion of other genres like melodeath that makes Kingsphere an exciting listen. Alongside that? Bombastic electronica, a wicked blend of clean and harsh vocals, an addictive chorus, and enough riffs to head bang yourself into a stupor. It’s a banger of a track.
THROATCUT. – creep
Newly signed to Arising Empre, THROATCUT. have released their new single and video ‘creep’.
The band explain:
‘creep.’ is about the voice, or rather the person in your head, that lurks in the shadows and constantly follows you. It criticizes you, makes you doubt yourself, and tries to take control. But instead of ignoring it, the song emphasizes the importance of awareness and acceptance. Reflecting on yourself and co-existing with this voice can help make it quieter.
Spitting, snarling, moving with frightening ferocity, and creative enough to not just be any old blast of modern heaviness. This is a mighty beast of a metal track, and it speaks volumes about THROATCUT.’s intent that it sounds as dangerous as it does.
