Live Review: Bangover/Pulvis Et Umbra @ The Boston Music Rooms, London (05/11/17)
With a sold out Nails show a stones-throw away in Camden, it’s no surprise that on a cold Sunday evening the Boston Music Rooms is extremely quiet for an evening of intense heavy metal spanning the globe.
Time constraints, families & jobs meant that our attendance was to be brief unfortunately. We were there to see GBHBL favourites, Pulvis Et Umbra but were lucky to also catch Bangover.
The crowd might be super sparse but that doesn’t stop the thrash metal band from throwing their all into it. Their music is infectious & the few people that are watching are head-banging away with glorious smiles on their faces. A band well worth keeping an eye on, they have a very bright future in the modern thrash metal scene. Check out their music on Bandcamp & like them on Facebook.
Pulvis Et Umbra hail from Italy, a death metal band led by the charismatic Damy. Their latest album, Atmosfear was released in February 2017 & we loved it. You can read our review here.
For clarity & in line with our drive to be honest about our associations (go to this link to see other projects we support):
We support the music we love, we want to support every band & artist we can within our genres as we know how hard coverage & exposure can be. We welcome it & it in no way affects our critique. With that in mind we were very lucky to be part of Pulvis Et Umbra’s UK tour as a sponsor & did some promotion for them.
It’s very disappointing to see just how few people are there when Pulvis Et Umbra take to the stage but credit to both the band & those in attendance, they work hard at proving it doesn’t really matter. Blasting through track after track of fantastic death metal, Pulvis knock those in attendance for six with ferocious energy & blasting metal riffs.
Damy is Pulvis Et Umbra & he absolutely shines on stage. He is a man possessed jumping around, snapping his head around constantly & even jumping off the stage to pit with the folks at the front. It’s a heavy, nasty & bruising (definitely felt the next day) experience but so satisfying. When they finish up there are big smiles & high fives from everyone there.
We can’t wait until they come back to play again!
You can pick up Atmosfear plus their earlier work over on Bigcartel & all major streaming platforms/CD sellers. You can find out more about Purvis Et Umbra & the touring plans over on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram. Of course, if you want to see what all the fuss is about head over to YouTube to check out some of the band’s videos.
