EP Review: Screech Bats – Wish You Were Her (Spinup)

As punk rock as it is possible to be in 2018, the foursome that make up Screech Bats are an exciting and relatable group. Their passion for punk rock and using their platform to talk about difficult subjects and spread messages of hope is truly exceptional.

It was the passion and incredible stories told in their track by track guide for their EP that has seen this review come about. Simply put, Screech Bats have gotten our attention and we wanted to know more. Wish You Were Her was released on March 30th 2018 via Spinup.

Wish You Were Her is a short EP, 5 tracks long and comes in at under 15 minutes. What a 15 minutes it is though.

Blood in My Hair kicks things off with pace, a punky snarl in the riffs all while singer Lexi lets her inspiring vocals put the stamp on proceedings. A top start that is followed by the excellent and catchy Get Better, the EPs lead single. Even though it lacks the energy found elsewhere.

The more rock focused stuff continues with Every Good Thing. Probably the weakest track of the bunch before the energy is brought back up for the ripping Just Like You. Short and to the point, it makes its mark with some wicked riffs and sharp lyrics.

Things wrap up with That Valentine Song. A stylish finale that sums up Screech Bats method of delivering quality punk rock. The chorus is outstanding, a very satisfying song to end on.
