EP Review: Mighty Magic Animal – Guts (Self Released)
Mighty Magic Animal are a garage rock duo from Salisbury who formed from the ashes of several bands stretching back from 1999. Distilling elements of punk, rock, grunge and blues riffs to their core elements, combined with foot stomping, head nodding beats and irreverent lyrics.
Their debut EP ‘Guts’ is out now.
Three tracks of in your face garage rock, Mighty Magic Animal are an intriguing beast. One that has all the cuteness of a puppy but all the bite of a wolf. You need only look at the first track, Crave to see that as it’s intensity increases right near the end.
The wild and uncouth approach to their rock and roll is what appeals here, they’re a messy bunch but that’s the aim and it works well. It’s very easy to find yourself tapping along to Spasm, especially with the almost spoken word vocal style.
Finally the title track ups the tempo for a wild finish. So much fun, if you’re new to this band as we are you’ll likely enjoy it as much as we did.
