EP Review: In Obscurity Revealed – Spell of the Seeker (Cyclopean Eye Productions)

In Obscurity Revealed are a death metal band from Mexico City with one foot in the early Swedish death metal era and the other firmly planted in the legendary Floridian death metal scene. Spell of the Seeker was originally released in 2015 but has seen a re-release in 2017 with an additional bonus track via Cyclopean Eye Productions.

Keeping things fairly simple, In Obscurity Revealed play a raw and brutal version of death metal. No surprises, no nonsense and all kinds of heavy. The five tracks that make Spell of the Seeker are spat out at a venomous pace and while it is brief, it’s about as much as you’re going to want to take.

It’s not that it’s bad. It’s more that it’s just ok. To say that what they deliver here is bad would be unfair. It’s just that the reality is that In Obscurity Revealed are not adding anything fresh to an already tired sound.

The one standout to the roughness is Law of Thelma that beings some much needed groove to proceedings. Solid as hell but far too forgettable, Spell of the Seeker comes and blasts your sense apart then promptly disappears.
