Band Interview: Dark Serenity
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with hard rock band, Dark Serenity.
1. How did you get started as a band?
We all met in high school, and began practicing in Kate (our singer)’s basement. It had one outlet, and we had barely any space or gear, but we worked hard, and acquired the means to begin making our dream happen. We were all pretty lucky to start so young.
2. How would you describe your sound?
We’ve been described as “If Zeppelin and Sabbath had a love child”, and in addition to it being a high compliment, it also resonated with us, because those are two of our biggest influences, all the way from childhood into adulthood.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Some bands that definitely influenced us are Black Sabbath, Zeppelin, Rush, Kansas, Dio, The Foo FIghters, The Who, and The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
Can’t really say, we’re based in the era of streaming and can’t really imagine a world without it. However, with Youtube in particular it can reach literally the entire world. If I think anything is hindering us it would be the mainstream music, as in the popularity of other genres above rock recently, but even that is always changing.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Well obviously we’re a rock band and we certainly party as such, but we love to cook, create other art than just music, watch classic movies, and go out and discover new music in each town’s respective scene.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We’ll be releasing our sophomore album sometime in 2020, and are planning on hitting the road again this spring/summer. Make sure to follow us online to catch updates on when we’ll be in a city near you.
