Album Review: Seep – Hymns to the Gore (Extremely Rotten Productions)

One-man death/doom project Seep is set to unleash its full-length debut, Hymns to the Gore on July 8th, 2022 via Extremely Rotten Productions.

The entity behind the project, Vomitus comments on the album:

I love all things death metal, particularly unpolished obscurities from the 90s/00s. This entire album is an ode to that – back when death metal was about gross shit, had raw production, and was all about being as heavy as humanly possible.

 

 

Fucking brutal. Fucking raw. Fucking disgusting.

That’s it. That’s the review. You’ll already know if this one is for you or not based on Vomitus’ own words. There is no hyperbole here, Hymns to the Gore really is that heavy and sickening. An eight-track album of death metal with elements of gore-grind and filth-covered doom. A horrific fusion that boils the stomach acids, loosens the bowels, and makes the ears bleed.

However, don’t let these descriptions fool you into thinking this is just an album’s worth of noise for the sake of being ‘brutal’. It’s brutal but the love, care and attention that Seep had given each tome, makes for a much more diverse listen than you might initially expect.

Simply put, it takes some talent to sound this heavy and that’s all the more impressive when you consider it is all mostly the work of one individual. Mostly because the track ‘Jigsaw Facefuck’ features guest vocals by Brennen Westermeyer (FLUIDS). And there are guest guitar solos on ‘Addicted to Rancidity’ and ‘Encased in Shit’ by Daniel Bonofiglio (FUMES/GUTVOID).

If you’re feeling in the mood for some bodily destruction, some no-nonsense and old-school ferocity, look no further than Hymns to the Gore. Just don’t be surprised if you’re left feeling a little sick afterwards.
