Album Review: Kingdom – Rotting Carcass Arise upon the Burial Mound (Godz Ov War Productions)

Rising from the scummy filth that is death metal scene in Poland, Kingdom will release their new album ‘Rotting Carcass Arise upon the Burial Mound’ on June 6th 2019 via Godz Ov War Productions.

Kingdom 2

It should be no surprise that Kingdom’s new album is a unpleasant piece of work. Nine original tracks of eye-wateringly odious and hateful death metal and a cover of the legendary Samael’s Baphomet’s Throne.

Fury and strive, anger and hate, a revulsion of everything…Rotting Carcass Arise upon the Burial Mound is not for the faint-hearted. Beginning with a short and violent stamp to the head with Dark Light Rising before Świątynia Zepsucia sees it step up an extra notch with even more aggressive guitar riffing and drumming.

To call this a ‘heavy’ album is to not do it justice. It is the sound of hell unleashed upon earth.

The jarring sound of feedback leads us into Zatracony w Obłędzie as the drums and bass do the heavy lifting before Cadaver Purgatory slices slivers of flesh away with the sharpened tool of the lead guitar. It’s the longest but also the most effective and exciting track on the album.

It’s a shame that Otchłań Zapomnienia isn’t able to match that as it’s just a little too bland.

The latter part of the album sees Kingdom vary things up with a return to their fiery and assaulting style of death metal in Burial mound. An echoing short bit of melody in Echo Duszy Utraconej and Devourer of Light that sticks the boot in one final time.

A very death metal release then ends with a cover of Samael’s Baphomet’s Throne. An enjoyable enough version that doesn’t come within touching distance of the original.
