Top 10 Rock & Metal Christmas Songs
Christmas has resulted in some of the worst pieces of music to every grace a person’s ear…but the thing is its all subjective. What someone hates, another loves. This applies to everything in life but when it comes to Christmas music it seems to have much more relevance.
I like my Christmas songs to be filled with cheer, have a happy subject & have a hefty amount of cheese. If all of this combines with a nice bit of rock & metal…well, even better. So here are the best 10 Christmas songs from the genre of music that I Iove…sorry, no Wham or Pogues in sight.
10: Twisted Sister – I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
Did you know Twisted Sister did a Christmas album? It was called A Twisted Christmas & saw the glam-rock veterans take well known Christmas songs & give them that Twisted edge. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus is one of the more cheesy offerings.
9: Queen – Thank God It’s Christmas
Not exactly one of Queen’s better known songs but a decent stab at a Christmas tune.
8: Lemmy/Billy Gibbons/Dave Grohl – Run Rudolph Run
One of the many great songs taken from the Christmas album We Wish You A Metal Xmas…. Each song saw a variety of stars step up & combine talents to create their own version of some Christmas classics. This one has Lemmy’s unmistakable growl all over it.
7: Amon Amarth – Viking Christmas
Yeah, you might struggle to hear the Christmas in this song but it is a good one nonetheless.
6: Dez Fafara/Blasko/Doug Aldrich/John Tempesta – Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Another super-group from the Metal Xmas album, this time Dez Fafara of Devildriver/Coal Chamber takes over on vocal duties & does a stand-up job.
5: Twisted Sister – Heavy Metal Christmas
This one sees Twisted Sister reign in the cheese factor & really go to town in making this a great Christmas song combining sections of the 12 Days of Christmas.
4: Alice Cooper/John 5/Billy Sheehan/Vinnie Appice – Santa Claws Is Coming To Town
Check out the calibre of that super-group! Another classic from the Metal Xmas album but one with a bit more unique-ness from the artists. Alice Cooper manages to horror up Santa Claus nicely.
3: Twisted Sister – Oh Come All Ye Faithful
Now we’re hitting our cheesy stride…this is perfect Twisted Sister. It stays true to the original song while upping the rock factor. The accompanying video just makes it all so much better.
2: Chuck Billy/Scott Ian/Jon Donais/Chris Wyse/John Tempesta – Silent Night
This is the heaviest song on the Metal Xmas album & by far the best. It is probably the heaviest version of Silent Night you may ever hear as well. Pure quality…
1: The Darkness – Christmas Time (Don’t Let the Bells End)
Right, this is the controversial one…really, The Darkness? The best Christmas song ever? Yes! It combines everything I want in a Christmas song. It is warm-filled with holiday cheer & has the right level of cheesiness.
I love it & so should you.
