Single Slam: Benediction, Archers, Drew Thomas, and Benthos!
Today’s single slam features Benediction, Archers, Drew Thomas, and Benthos. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.
Benediction – Engines of War
British death metal legends, Benediction, have unleashed the first single, ‘Engines of War’, from their upcoming new studio album, ‘Ravage of Empires’, which is due to be released on April 4th, 2025, via Nuclear Blast Records.
Brash and brutal with nothing but head banging vibes, Benediction are turning back the clock here and delivering a punchy and meaty blast of heavy. This is the old-school s**t that you want to hear, the old-school s**t that warms the crusty metal heart, and the old-school s**t that turns many a modern death metal head in their direction. It’s so damn enjoyable.
Archers – Never Enough
Archers, Wisconsin’s powerhouse metalcore band, have dropped their latest hard-hitting single, ‘Never Enough’, produced by Matt Good and available now via SBG Records.
Speaking on the new single, the band shares:
‘Never Enough’ is a story too many of us are familiar with – the chemistry between two people who aren’t good for each other. These relationships are addictive by nature, and oftentimes toxic, resulting in conflict both internal and external. ‘Never Enough’ addresses the uncomfortable side of this kind of relationship, acknowledging the ‘temporary high’ of lapsing into toxicity. Because although there’s conflict and you might know it’s unhealthy, breaking the bonds for good is a lot harder than dealing with the familiarities with the thing you’ve come to know.
A big infectious hit of adrenaline with massive amounts of modern invention that gives their metalcore sound a fresher feel. Archers are killing it here, and the proof comes in several waves. The chorus, which is so anthemic, the blasts of aggression, which will make your teeth shake, and a breakdown that simply slays. Killer stuff.
Drew Thomas – Do They Even Know You?
London based, Nottingham born grit pop artist Drew Thomas has revealed his very own wake up call in the form of brand-new single, ‘Do They Even Know You?’ via Revanche Records.
Speaking about his new single, Drew Thomas comments:
Do They Even Know You? is about feeling misunderstood and breaking free from unhealthy relationships. It’s a wake-up call to face the people who’ve screwed you over, stop excusing their behaviour and take a hard look at who you’ve let into your life. Because sometimes, the ones you know the best don’t really know you at all.
A little bit grungy, a little bit rocky, quite alternative, and with plenty of pop vibes, this is such a catchy listen. Just wait until the chorus hits. It’s so familiar, but it’s also so inventive that just about anybody could hear it and enjoy it. Only a talent like Drew Thoms could produce this kind of song.
Benthos – As A Cordyceps
The final pieces are slowly unveiling: Italian metal band Benthos have released their third single ‘As A Cordyceps’ while revealing details for their upcoming sophomore album ‘From Nothing’, which will be released April 11th, 2025, via InsideOutMusic. The album offers a profound reflection on the meaning of life while exploring positive and negative imprints left by mankind, and how they have shaped entire societies in various aspects – artistic, cultural, and social.
The band shares about the album:
We’ve poured our hearts and souls into “From Nothing”, and we’re beyond thrilled for you to hear it and connect with it in your own way. Creating this album encouraged us to experiment with new sounds and take risks that pushed our creativity to personal new heights. It’s been a wild ride, and now we’re finally ready to share it with you.
The evolution continues with aplomb, encapsulated by even more experimentation that makes this new single so exciting, and so challenging. Redefining what the word ‘progressive’ means in musical terms. Benthos stand alone, and you’re either going to embrace the madness fully, or run screaming in terror. There is no middle ground, but should you be able to connect with this track, you will find yourself entranced by it.
