Interview: Tallboy (Written)

Brit newcomers, Tallboy, are ready to carve out a prominent name for themselves with the release of their blistering new single and video, ‘Name & Shame’. In this interview we get to know them a little better.

1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.

It all came together naturally, I shared a few ideas I had recorded, and we got in a room together. By the end of that first session, we had a full song recorded. From there, everything just clicked, we were knocking out a new track every week.

2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?

Are you a fan of heavy music and weird shit? If so, we are the band you’ve been looking for.

3. What’s currently keeping you busy? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?

We’ve booked our first hometown show this May, and we couldn’t be more excited! Right now, we’re in the mixing stage of an EP we’ve been crafting over the past few months. Our goal this year is to release as much music as possible, along with videos to bring it all to life.

4. What it is about this current period that is particularly exciting for you?

Honestly, it’s hearing the songs come to life! We record everything ourselves, and listening back to what we’ve created in our little studio is always an exciting moment.

5. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you.

We’ve put everything into these songs, countless hours of writing, recording, and fine-tuning every detail to make them something we’re truly proud of. It’s been a labour of love, and we can’t wait to finally share them with everyone. Seeing it all come together means the world to us.

6. Making music and being creative can be a very positive experience and can be very good for the mind. In what way has making music had a positive impact on your mental health?

We truly believe in the idea that “music is medicine.” It’s more than just something we create, it’s our escape, our therapy, and our sanctuary. Writing and playing music is a deeply cathartic experience, helping us process emotions and find clarity in the chaos. It has been a lifeline for all of us, and personally, I can say it has saved my life.

7. It can also be incredibly challenging, more so in the modern times. What have been some challenging aspects of making music and how have you overcome them?

Creating music comes naturally to us, it’s what we love to do. We’ve been part of several bands over the years, and now we’re embracing a new beginning.

8. How do you handle the online aspects of being in a band? Having to put out content constantly, promoting across several different social media platforms, and having your success measured in likes and follows?

Navigating the online side of being in a band can be a challenge, but we try to approach it as an extension of our creativity rather than a chore. Social media is a powerful tool, and while the pressure to constantly put out content and chase numbers can be overwhelming, we focus on staying authentic and sharing things that genuinely represent us. At the end of the day, it’s about connecting with people who love music as much as we do. The likes and follows are nice, but what really matters is building a real community around our music.

9. How do you make this part of things enjoyable, and fulfilling, for yourself?

We make it enjoyable by keeping it fun and authentic, sharing moments that feel real rather than forcing content just for the sake of it. Whether it’s behind-the-scenes clips, jamming in the studio, or just having a laugh together, we try to show who we really are. Engaging with people who connect with our music makes it all worthwhile, and when we see our songs resonating with others, it reminds us why we do this in the first place. It’s not just about promotion; it’s about building something meaningful with the people who support us.

10. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support you?

The best way to support us is simple, listen to our music, download it, and share it with your friends. Every stream, playlist add, and social media share makes a huge difference. Engage with us online, come to our shows, and spread the word however you can. Independent music thrives on community, and having your support means everything to us.

11. Outside of music, what do you like to do to relax?

When we’re not making music, you’ll probably find us at the pub, sinking a few pints and having a laugh. We’re also big into video games, sometimes it’s a solo session to chill, other times it’s full-on mayhem online with mates. Either way, it’s all about chilling out and having a good time.

12. Where can people find you?
