Album Review: Necrambulant – Upheaval of Malignant Necrambulance (Gore House Productions)
Phoenix, Arizona’s Necrambulant will be unleashing their second full-length ‘Upheaval of Malignant Necrambulance’ via Gore House Productions on March 7th, 2025.
Six seconds. That’s all it takes to know if this album is going to be for you or not. Just six horrible seconds, and it’s six seconds that come right at the start of the album. Where the screams of pain and suffering are unleashed as an introduction to Amalgamation of Gruesome Curdling Abomination. Necrambulant make it abundantly clear that what we’re about to hear is nothing short of torture and violence in aural form.
It falls under the brutal blackened death metal genre, but it comes with a lavish helping of gore and blood, aided by the chainsaw sounds of grind. Across eleven tracks, an impossibly high level of carnage is dished out by Necrambulant. Yet, long term listeners will be right at home as this is a continuation of what they spat out on their 2022 ‘A Feast of Festering Flesh’, and even further back, what they exposed with their 2013 album Infernal Infectious Necro-ambulatory Pandemic.
It’s not just a regurgitation of sickening noise though and Necrambulant are dragging their victims kicking and screaming into a new era. One that they approach with renewed confidence and a seemingly insatiable thirst for more and more blood. Heavier, harder, uglier, more intense, more violent, and more dangerous than ever. Rarely do you listen to something and feel like it might genuinely be bad for your health.
That’s Necrambulant for you though and they cause some serious carnage with Upheaval of Malignant Necrambulance.
Which does mean it has limited value as it’s only for those who like the sound of extreme metal and even then, that gets narrowed down to an even more egregious level of listener who enjoys being suffocated by stinking bile and rotting guts. There’s no sense in describing individual tracks, and the bleed is insane here. I have an ear for this kind of music, and thoroughly enjoy being battered by it, but even I lost all sense of what I was hearing after a while. In most cases, that’s a bad thing, but here it just felt like that was part of the experience. My mind became mush all under the relentless extreme assault dished out by a band so adept at it.
Love it or loathe it, Necrambulant are still going to spill blood.
