Interview: Malcolm Galloway & Mark Gatland of Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate (Video/Audio)

Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate are an eclectic band, combining progressive/alt-rock, classical, experimental, electronic, and metal influences. Their performances have been described as passionate and charismatic.

Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate are Malcolm Galloway (vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer) and Mark Gatland (bass, Chapman stick, backing vocals, additional guitar, keyboards and co-producer), on their own, or with Kathryn Thomas (flute, backing vocals).

They have regularly broadcast on a wide range of radio shows internationally, ranging from shows focused on metal to ambient stations. They are the co-organisers with London Prog Gigs of the charity festival Prog the Forest.

‘The Uncertainty Principle’, the 8th album by Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate explores the history of uncertainty. The album is a mixture of vocal and instrumental tracks, combining elements of progressive/alt/art-rock, electronic, and contemporary classical music. The album will be released on Bandcamp on March 4th, 2025, with a general release on May 30th, 2025, via Glass Castle Recordings.

There will be a launch event at the Camden Club, 72 Chalk Farm Road, London NW1 8AN at 1pm on Sunday 6 April 2025. The event, promoted by London Prog Gigs, will be jointly headlined by Hats Off Gentlemen It’s Adequate and Ghost of the Machine, who will also be celebrating their new album. Pick up tickets here.
