Church Road Records Announce New Signing – Fiery & Emotive Uk Post-Hardcore Quintet Indifferent Engine
Church Road Records announce their latest signing, fiery and complex post-hardcore quintet Indifferent Engine – a band whose reputation for wild and extravagant live performances precedes them. The Cambridge, UK based band fall in-between the cracks of emotive post-hardcore, experimental rock, contemporary prog and alternative metal, filling the stage and floor with more CRT-TV monitors than guitar pedals. Their unrelenting energy and versatile scope has spilled right into their full length debut album Speculative Fiction – which promises to be a cinematic journey for the ears bursting with energy, experimentation and exhilaration, released on May 30th.

This announcement will also coincide with the release of the first taste of Speculative Fiction. Listen to explosive new single ‘Crashing Into A Hillside In The Dead Of Night’ now – a storming track that showcases charging tremolo guitars and crunching bass, topped off with idiosyncratic and anguished vocals. This single and the rest of Speculative Fiction has been produced, mixed and engineered by Tom Hill (Modern Rituals) at The Bookhouse studio in London. ‘Crashing…’ is inspired by the story of an airplane disaster where the flight crew knew they were running out of fuel, but kept circling in the hopes that the air traffic controllers would allow them to land. The song channels that feeling of not standing up for yourself but wishing you had or could. This single will precede an album all about disasters – factual, fictional and personal.
Indifferent Engine have built up a small cult following through their visually impressive and highly memorable live performances. They also boast a wild merch table, selling their own branded Janky Tape Echo unit, modular pedalboard and forthcoming Sega Mega Drive cartridge video game. The band have found more success venturing outside of their Cambridge home, playing more shows in Hertfordshire and London. Indifferent Engine prove to be an awkward fit on any bill, yet have the versatility to play with like-minded leftfield artists in metal, hardcore, post-punk, contemporary prog, noise rock and experimental fields. The band look forward to travelling more across the UK with the potential to tour and play festival bills, taking Speculative Fiction to further reaches.
