EP Review: Vordermann – Feeding on Flowers (Self Released)

Vordermann, a sludge pop/post-rock doomgaze five-piece band from Stoke, UK, will release their debut EP, ‘Feeding on Flowers’ on March 7th, 2025.

A true encapsulation of what it means to genre-bend, labelling Vordermann is a fool’s game, instead the best way to describe this release to the uninitiated is to explain the intrinsic cleverness of what they have shaped here. To point at its burgeoning post flavours, to comment on the liberal expulsion of melodies, to share the power of the rockier side of the band, and to vibrate with excitement over the extensive feeling it creates.

There’s a lot to say about this EP, and across three tracks Vordermann make it unforgettable.

Infinitely listenable, especially when it comes to unpicking the detail, Cloudpiercer seems like a track based in power, but transforms into an emotional piece of music by the end. It is brilliant, but so is Delirium Tremors, all because of the instrumental flow that gives it both a heavy and light feel. Again, just like the former track (and the latter), Vordermann transform the track as it goes on. It’s one of the most fun aspects of their sound, and this one is a delightfully harmonised listen.

Finally, it’s the hilariously titled Saint Banger (The Lars Ulrich Torrent Finder General Drum Circle Experience). A near eight-minute extravaganza that, somehow, makes the sound of Lars Ulrich ranting a beautiful thing. All thanks to the heavenly melody that plays over it. It sounds like it should be funny, and it is to some degree, but there are thought-provoking aspects to it. As this mighty track goes on, the melody is still so prevalent, but there’s so much more heft to the instrumentals too. It’s an absolute delight.
