EP Review: Taking The Head Of Goliath – Futility Of The Flesh (Rottweiler Records)
‘Futility of the Flesh’ is a new four track EP from death metal band, Taking the Head of Goliath and it will be released on October 25th, 2024, via Rottweiler Records.
Now, you might be thinking… that was quick, didn’t this band call time on their brand of brutality back in March 2023? Releasing one last live album ‘Beyond Brutal Live’, before skulking back into the darkness? Yes, they did, and they’re not back. No, instead what we have here is one final blast of manic wicked heaviness to send all fans of horrific death metal into throes of ecstasy.
A handful of beastly efforts that fully draws a line under the violence that Taking the Head of Goliath have dished out for so long. Beginning with a horrific scream, the EP gets underway in salacious fashion with the title track, Taking the Head of Goliath infusing abject bleakness into this opener. Before Septic Enslavement follows with a brutalising blast of dynamism, where the death metal mania is balanced by creative intensity.
Then, it’s a beastly live version of ‘Neoteric Tribal Barbarism’, recorded at Rayfest in 2021. Where the insane power of Jake Martain’s vocals is captured in all their glory. Seriously, he sounds insane live. Finally, it’s Cord of Three Strands, which fans will know as a standalone single released in 2019. Guess what? It’s more quality death metal savagery from a band that will be greatly missed.
Cheers for the heavy horror, guys!
