EP Review: Idle Ruin – Idle Ruin (Self Released)

In Brisbane, Australia, an amazing, new band has appeared on the horizon! Idle Ruin plays aggressive and hard-hitting music that could be best described as death metal crossed with blackened thrash. The band’s self-titled debut EP will be released on December 4th 2020.

Band founder and singer Liam Anthony had this say about the EP:

This EP is the first offering of some of the songs I wrote during the lockdown, inspired mostly by early death metal and classic blackened thrash bands and brought to life with the help of Kaleb Doherty (guitar) and Josh Dawson (bass). The three of us are very like-minded musicians; it’s been great having them on board.

No frills, no nonsense and no mercy, Idle Ruin’s debut EP isn’t setting any new trends or anything like that. It’s simply aggressive and hard-hitting heaviness to help you bang your head. Something it easily accomplishes with a frantic, blustery and intensifying assault of blackened death and thrash.

Four frenetic offerings that have as much bite as bark and fly by in blur of scathing riffs, macerating bass, frenzied drumming and contemptuous vocals. Idle Ruin make war, not love and across its brief run-time, the neck muscles will be sent into overdrive. Head-bang yourself into a stupor.
