EP Review: Drug Church – Tawny (Pure Noise Records)

Everyone’s favourite punk rock agitators, Drug Church, have returned. Tawny: a new four-song EP is due out June 25th from Pure Noise Records. It acts as a bridge from their 2018 LP, Cheer, to Drug Church’s impending fourth full-length.

Two new tracks, a previously released single and a cover, this is Drug Church reminding you that they’re still here and still rocking. The new tracks are what starts the EP off, Head-Off kicking things into gear in feel-good ways. The chilled-out garage-rock vibes hit nicely, and the punk-edge adds some meat to the bones of the track.

The title track has a bit more fire to it and sees Drug Church going harder and heavier but mightily catchy too. Punk rock gold that has tons of energy. Which also applies to their previously released single, Bliss Out. Less than two minutes of snarling and sneering in classic punk ways. Three impressive hits from a band that clearly know how to write bangers.

While they’re not responsible for the writing of Remember to Forget, it doesn’t mean they don’t make it so very Drug Church. Even if you’re not familiar with the Arcwelder original, you can still appreciate a damn fine and rocking number.
