Bloodstock 2021 Band Feature: Master Charger
A band that should need no introduction, Midlands’ own Master Charger have been spreading their rock/doom/sludge sound across this land and more since 2006.
Rising from the ashes of previous semi successful bands, it didn’t take long for Master Charger to make an impression. They had a flurry of releases between 2009 and 2011, culminating in their well-received Unity in Black album.
After a few years of unsettled line-ups, the band were finally in a position to release the album Eroding Empires in 2016 and following that up with 2020’s Origins of the Lugubrious. A pair of releases that helped Master Charger not only solidify their name, but gain them tons of new fans too.
Nowhere was this more prevalent then when they appeared on stage. Hitting up festivals like HRH Doom vs Stoner, HRH Metal Chapter III and Hammerfest XI. As well as sharing the stage with line-ups that featured the likes of Monolord, Orange Goblin, Black Rainbows, Conan, Raging Speedhorn, Fireball Ministry, Dead Witches, Overkill, Alunah, Paradise Lost, Flotsam and Jetsam, Black Moth, Acid Reign, Eternal Fear, Decapitated, Warrior Soul, Nashville Pussy.
Even if you didn’t mean to, chances are you’ve seen Master Charger live in the UK at least once.
Of course, like most bands in this country and around the world, Master Charger haven’t been able to capitalise on their latest release. Which means Bloodstock 2021 is a chance for the band to let off some pent-up steam.
The Jägermeister stage on the Thursday is where you need to be to get your fix of Master Charger’s ‘doom ‘n’ roll’ sound. They had this to say:
If you’re watching Master Charger on the Jager stage on Thursday at BOA then you can expect 30 mins of raw sludgy southern blues tinged Stoner Doom. We have picked a set that is a little more upbeat to enhance the festival atmosphere that we hope to see on the day. You will get little if no talking in between song cos’ hey we only have half hour right. It’s gonna be heads down Satanic Blues Rumble all the way so buckle up and ENJOY THE RIDE!!!
