Band Interview: Halysis

Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with modern metal/progressive band, Halysis.

1. How did you get started as a band?

Halysis began as a ‘’jamming project’’ where our drummer Samuel, solo guitarist Jose and bassist Santeri played some covers together. Eventually we started writing original songs, and after our second guitarist (also Santeri) joined we began writing our first album, Cerulean.

2. How would you describe your sound?

Atmosphere in our songs is pretty dark, but faster tempos keep them energetic. We are a combination of modern metalcore and progressive metal.

Genre wise I’d call it progressive metalcore or technical metalcore.

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

Ahh, there are plenty. I think the biggest one has to be Metallica, it’s one of the bands that got us all playing our instruments. Sound-wise most influential ones are As I Lay Dying, Trivium and The Faceless, just to name a few.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

We are so young that we can’t really think doing this without Youtube. Youtube is a huge platform and you can find so many great bands out there. For us it has definitely been a huge help.

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

All of us are huge fans of video games and movies. We draw a lot of inspiration from those too!
Some of my personal favorite games are Dark Souls – series, Total War games and Starcraft.

Movies are one of our favorite hobbies. When we are not playing music together, we are mostly watching movies together. Genre-wise we tend to watch a lot of horror, mystery and ‘’so-bad-it’s-good’’ movies.

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

We are currently making new music with our new singer! We’d love to start touring as soon as possible, but we want to do it well when we do. So we shall keep on practicing!
