Band Interview: Fake News
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life bring you an interview with 90’s inspired melodic punk rock band, Fake News.
1. How did you get started as a band?
It was back in late 2017 I heard through a friend that Mick was starting a punk band along the lines of Strung Out, Pulley, Pennywise etc so I had to check it out. None of us really knew each other beforehand but we seemed to click straight away & we were playing the kind of music I always wanted to. We had a few different drummers & singers along the way in our quest to find the right sound that the band needed. That is where Tim & Nat came in. The rest is history.
2. How would you describe your sound?
90’s inspired melodic punk rock with a modern twist.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
The list is endless but I’ll cover some of the main ones. Pennywise, NOFX, Bad Religion, Strung Out, Pulley, Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, Bouncing Souls, A Wilhelm Scream, Rise Against. You get the idea.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
It certainly helps in being able to reach so many more people worldwide. Music is so accessible now whereas in the past you had to physically buy a CD or record to be able to listen to a bands new album. The hard part is being able to stand out from the 1000’s of other artists who are also online. You tend to just get lost in the crowd. That’s why we like to think we are doing something a bit memorable & worthy of being found.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Listening to music, talking about music, going to gigs. Yeah music is a big part of life. Aside from music I love to hit the beach & get out & about. Whether it be camping, boating, fishing or just hanging out with mates. We live in a great part of the world here on the Gold Coast so you have to get out & make the most of it.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We are just going to continue doing what we are doing. We already have plans to get in & record a new single soon with the aim to release later this year. Beyond that probably another full length album next year. I think we are due to get back down to Sydney & Melbourne for an east coast tour again, hopefully later this year. If the opportunity arose to tour overseas we would jump at the chance so long as we have someone to back us financially.
