Band Interview: Bonnie
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with ‘vintage soul and roll’ band, Bonnie.
1. How did you get started as a band?
BONNIE was founded in 2013 by Bonnie herself and Ueli “Hoffi” Hofstetter as a R’n’R – Band. Over the years we released 3 full albums and 3 EP’s, charted No 5 in Switzerland’s album-charts and played up to 250 shows in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Austria and Czech Republic. In this time we developed our style named “Vintage Soul and Roll”.
2. How would you describe your sound?
BONNIE: As said, we call our style “Vintage Soul and Roll”. That means a mix of old school Rhythm and Blues, Pop, Funk and Blues. In fact, the golden thread is BONNIE’s voice and personality.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
BONNIE: As a singer, BONNIE is influenced by the likes as Imelda May, Cher and Amy Winehouse. The band takes reference to a range from the Beatles to bands like Vintage Trouble.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
BONNIE: The music business changed a lot over the years. We try to be updated in every way because if you don’t connect to these channels and platforms you are out of the game. A big part of our band is writing and producing songs and – before the pandemic – playing live. And these are very “analog” tasks.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
BONNIE: If I don’t work on songs, I enjoy home with my dog, love to go out for a drink and gigs. As I raised up on a farm, I love nature and being outside.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
BONNIE: We currently work on new material that will be released of the next months. Furthermore we hope to be able to play live again as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it is hard to say what will be possible in 2022. But we hope the best!!! Cheers!!
