Band Interview: Barbarian Prophecies
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to being you an interview with melodic death metal band, Barbarian Prophecies.
1. How did you get started as a band?
Barbarian Prophecies is a death metal band from Spain (Lugo, Galicia). The band started in the year 2000 because we wanted to create a project with music that was not yet known in our city. It was formed from the union of two bands: Barbarianth and Venomous Prophecies. From there came Barbarian Prophecies, the result of the combination of the names and members of both bands.
2. How would you describe your sound?
We basically play melodic death metal with various influences like black metal or progressive. In addition to influences within extreme metal, on our new album “Horizon” you can also find references from other genres such as electronic music, 80s pop or flamenco.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
We can name: Black Sabbath, Deicide, Kataklysm, Dissection, Testament, Unleashed, Necrophobic, Enthroned, Opeth…
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
That has helped us. Thanks to these types of platforms our music can be listened to practically all over the world, so it has made it easier for more people to know us and listen to our music.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
The good thing about music is that it allows us to do other things that we also like, such as listening/discovering more music (and if it’s live, better), writing, traveling, meeting people… luckily it’s a hobby compatible with many others!
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
Our last gig was on February 2020. It was the last gig before the pandemic situation arrives and now it’s difficult to recover the live activity because most of the concert halls are closed due to the sanitary restrictions caused by the covid-19.
Our plans will be to resume our live activity. We really want to present “Horizon” and we hope to be able to return to the stage this year 2021.
