Album Review: Zac and the New Men – Reinvent Me (Self Released)

South Wales, alternative pop rock band Zac and the New Men will release their new album, ‘Reinvent Me’ on May 19th, 2023.

Kicking off the album with previously released single Say It. Zac and the Men showcase a lot of heart and soul from the start. A track all about catchy rhythms that blur the lines of pop and rock nicely. The bursts of heavier groove meshing well with the dramatic melodies and soft tone.

Following that banger of an opener, the funky groove is taken up a notch with the powerful Deeper and the explosive Atom Bomb. Two more tracks that will make you want to move, but also two tracks that have plenty of feeling to them. A key aspect of the album as a whole.

The title track is a particular highlight as it might be Zac and the New Men at their most dramatic sounding. The instrument and vocal combination is massive sounding, and it really leaves a deep impression.

The poppier side of the band continues to be on full display with the emotive and earnest Watching the World Go By. Although the old-school hard rock guitar solo might be the most notable aspect of it. Before Embers showcases grand melodic and cinematic authenticity, and That’s OK proves to be an extremely pretty track with a wonderful message. Something that shines brightly through thanks to the dreamy vocals and touching guitar melodies.

Finally, it’s a trio of thrills and chills with the body-shaker that is Social Blur, the groovy energy of Birdcage, and the genre-bending finale of The Lesson. Very cool stuff from Zac and the New Men.

It’s an album of memorable and accessible tunes. Which should be more than enough for Zac and the New Men to make an impression on a wide array of listeners.
