Album Review: Silverstein – Antibloom (UNFD)
Silverstein enter their 25th year with two full-length albums set for release in 2025. Two albums, one year-long celebration, and it begins with ‘Antibloom’, out February 21st, 2025.
It speaks volumes about Silverstein’s prolific nature and confidence that they have been able to produce two albums, and that both will see the light of day this year. It’s a celebration, not only because they have hit the 25-year mark, but it has arrived in such vivid fashion. It’s Antibloom, and it’s a high point of Silverstein’s musical career to date.
Beginning in anthemic fashion, Mercy Mercy has tight post hardcore intensity and burns so brightly because of its epic sounding chorus. It’s a delightfully raucous introduction to what Silverstein are offering here, serving as a glowing tribute to their sound, but with a ton of fresh ideas involved too. The ending alone is so special, Silverstein at their heaviest.
The high quality anthemic alternative metal and rock continues with Don’t Let Me Get Too Low, where they do a fabulous job of infusing poppier beats in, all so you constantly feel the energy coursing through your veins. Then delivering some of that lovable melodic sweetness with the soulful catchiness of Confession, the retro-pop-rockiness of A Little Fight, and the fiery Skin and Bones. The vocals are great, but this latter track is particularly special, going from ‘shouty’ intensity to dramatically laced with melody, and even featuring some powerful spoken word too.
Just another Silverstein anthem for old and new fans to fall in love with.
With groovy guitar tones, a chorus that explodes with life, and some clever heavy touches, I Will Destroy This keeps things sounding strong as the album reaches its end. However, as good as that track is, it’s the following Stress that kicks all kinds of ass, another great example of Silverstein’s heavier side. Hell, here they have an aggressive edge. Then, finally, it’s Cherry Coke, a straight-forward alternative banger.
… and that’s it! It’s over fairly quickly, but there is an ‘all killer, no filler’ focus here and it’s clear that Silverstein want listeners to experience these tracks time and time again before the next album drops. It is an easy record to listen too on repeat, not only because it is short, but because it’s so accessible and so enjoyable. The celebration is fully underway, and it’s here with a bang, all thanks to a kickass album.
