Helter Skelter Productions (distributed & marketed by Regain Records) presents Neromega’s striking debut mini-album, Nero Omega, on CD and 12” vinyl formats. To be released on the 11th April 2021 after its initial limited cassette run in October 2020.
Not your average doom release, Nero Omega is dripping in Italian gothic horror vibes and is heavily infused with eerie psychedelia. It’s a unique sound and certainly makes this a release well worth checking out. Especially as it’s just a small slice of what Neromega are capable of. Three original tracks and one cover.
The first, Solitudine is the most obviously doom effort with its lumbering guitars, impactful drums and ethereal vocal style. Over eight minutes of music flying by in a haze of sexy and gothic doominess. It’s then followed up with a proper taste of weirdness with the exceptional psychedelic and doom mix of Pugnale Ardore.
This is the stuff. A truly captivating track. The mellow psychedelia switch blended perfectly with the more powerful trudges.
The last original track, Morte Nella Fede is the shortest of the three and brings with it, a bit more pep to the thick and oozy sound. Not much but it’s really notable considering what came before and is undeniably enjoyable. Especially as it still has the heavyweight Neromega doom edge just one with a bit more energy and one that even has a guitar solo.
Lastly, sticking to their Italian roots, we get a cover of Un Posto. From progressive rock band, Balletto di Bronzo. Unaware of the original track, it’s hard to compare the two but what can be confidently stated is that Neromega have done a great job of making the track sound like them with doom-tinged groove. While it still burns with energetic rock life.
A very cool release. Addictive listening, once it ends you’ll just want to start it all over again.
