Album Review: N.Y. Fury – I Want It All (Eonian Records)

N.Y. Fury is an American rock band formed in the NY/NJ Tri-State Area in 1980 by Gene Hunter (bass, songwriter). Known for their high energy, hard rock theatrics, and hard-hitting sound with a melodic commercial feel, the band took over the local scene in the mid-to-late 80s.

Fast forward thirty-plus years, and the charisma and critical acclaim surrounding N.Y. FURY today have never waned. The buzz is growing in anticipation of Eonian Records’ first official public release of their previously vaulted studio recordings. An 80s nostalgic kick where N.Y. Fury’s worship of everything Kiss, Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister and more, alongside their own infusion of radio-friendly melodic rock, makes for a trip down memory lane. Provided you’re of a certain age or enjoy the sound of high-powered rock music.

It’s an album with a lot of swagger. An album with plenty of attitude. An album with a lot energy, melody and groove. Perfect fodder to move to, to head-bang to and to have fun to.

It’s always interesting to listen to the band that didn’t quite ‘make it’ when they clearly had all the tools to do so. What stopped N.Y. Fury when their music is so clearly accessible is a bit of mystery. Maybe it was just the timing, the lack of a label or a substantial push outside of their local scene. One thing that certainly can’t be blamed is their work ethic as N.Y. Fury put the effort in. So, it’s nice to see them getting their dues via Eonian Records.

The sound of this record is immense and the captures not just the essence of N.Y. Fury but the essence of what radio-friendly melodic hard rock from the 80s was/is. See out the year in nostalgic style! It’s been worth the wait.
