Album Review: Mortal Vision – Mind Manipulation (Redefining Darkness Records)
In 2019, Mortal Vision released their first demo, Madness of Messiah, through Take This Torch Records, which was re-released by Redefining Darkness with a new mix and master in May 2021.
Now the 4 young Ukrainian’s deliver a case study in thrash metal with their full-length debut, Mind Manipulation. Out on October 29th, 2021 via Redefining Darkness Records.
Thrash fucking metal but, and this is really important, Mortal Vision are not your run of the mill revivalists. Mortal Vision are time-travellers having come from the mid to late 80’s, seen the state of thrash and thought, fuck this.
The parallels to the thrash heavyweights of that era are clear but unlike a lot of those bands, this stuff is coming out of Europe. Not only that, it’s now. Mortal Vision are playing this blistering and ballsy brand of thrash in 2021 not 1987. Forget sounding dated, you’ll be far too busy head-banging and circle-pitting to care.
This is an album that doesn’t need deep analysis, it calls to the old-school metal fan in all of us. Even if thrash metal turns you off these days, you’ll find yourself feeling a bit amorous towards Mind Manipulation. Hit play, be transported back in time and lose your absolute shit to it. There’s absolutely no contest for head-banging this year.
To say that Mortal Vision have nailed what they were going for here is to understate just how thrash heavy this album is. Rejoice, the true revival is just getting started.
