Album Review: Kenos – Pest (My Kingdom Music)

Kenos are back with their fourth full length release. Pest marks a new chapter in their career, their classic technical death metal is enriched by strong “american” riffing and enshrouded by a heavy drumming. The album will be released on May 18th 2018 via My Kingdom Music.

Sometimes from the moment an album starts you can be confident you’re about to hear something special and with Kenos’ Pest that is exactly what you get.

Complex, heavy and incredibly rhythm based. Sons of Martrydom is a hell of a start, blending death metal ferocity with progressive elements. It’s not just a one and done either as B.D.C. (Black Death Curse & Buried and Forgotten show. The former a showcase of fascinating guitar screeches and sequels, the latter a smash-mouth metal assault.

The eight tracks that make up Pest will leave you lost for words by just how layered each track is. The standard death metal format is mixed up expertly here and it makes for a thrilling listen albeit one that takes some repeated listening to really dissect.

It flies by in a blur of crunching riffs and blazing rhythm though with Leave Me Alone and My Wooden Frame before Shooting at the Moon proves to be the delicious cherry on top of the cake.
