Breaching is the debut album from Leeds-based, 6-piece, post-metallers Hundred Year Old Man. Hot on the heels of recent EP Rei. The new album called ‘Breaching’ will be released on April 27th 2018 via Gizeh Records (LP/CD) and Wolves & Vibrancy (LP).
The conquering heaviness that Hundred Year Old Man bring with Breaching is an extraordinary thing. An album that brings ruthless post-metal savagery in an fantastic clean style. This isn’t a messy album nor is it just heavy for the sake of being heavy, Hundred Year Old Man have crafted a smart piece of work here that blends genres leaving you in awe.
Black Fire and The Forest are shockingly good opening tracks, ones that twist & turn through the whole spectrum of metal. The latter of the two in particular will leave you wide-eyed with amazement.
After a short melodic intermission (sort of), Hundred Year Old Man up the doom with Long Wall. The low tone of the guitars playing off the distant, screamed vocals perfectly before the pace increases with a roaring and pulsating beat.
By the middle of the album there is little doubt that Hundred Year Old Man have crafted one of the albums of the year. However if you still need convincing then the dark, melodic tone of Disconnect and Ascension will be all you need. It’s not as though these two tracks are softer, far from it but the vibe is much more modern sounding & with the momentary pace increases they put the exclamation point on what is a stunning piece of post-metal.
