Album Review: Bonecarver – Carnage Funeral (Unique Leader)

Crawling from the depths of the grime-filled underground, Bonecarver are once again on the lookout for fresh victims. The brutal death metallers have returned with their new album, Carnage Funeral, due 11th November via Unique Leader Records.

It doesn’t get more BRUTAL than this. Why capital letters? Because that’s how brutal Bonecarver’s new album is. That’s all you need to know; we hope you enjoyed this review.

In all seriousness, the simplicity of what Bonecarver have to offer here is a majorly appealing factor. The brutish, no-nonsense, and vicious approach is the stuff that death metal dreams are made of. However, Carnage Funeral does deserve a few more words because it does have more than just skull-crushing and neck-breaking savagery to offer. Even if that’s more than enough.

So, what is that extra? Magnificence and elaborate detail. Where blackened and symphonic grandeur seeps through like rot through dead flesh. Where progressive exceptionalism makes each grinding instrument akin to pain and pleasure. Bonecarver have such sounds to for you to experience.

Arguably beginning with the grandest track of all, the intense brutality that Bonecarver display isn’t as obvious at first. However, it doesn’t take the four-piece long to unleash a cacophony of instrumental and vocalised horror. It just so happens to be dressed up in a more lavish suit of flesh and gristle. Though, it’s not just that opening beast of a track that has this garish sound. Throughout, Bonecarver parade their grisly delights and tracks like The Reckoning, Morgue Desecrator and Horror Disorder make a mockery of other so-called extreme sounds.

It doesn’t get more BRUTAL than this. See? Those capital letters are justified.
