Album Review: Bloodphemy – Blood Sacrifice (Emanzipation Productions)

Steamrolling and rumbling death metal. Drawing influence from Florida, Sweden, and their heritage, Bloodphemy distinguish themselves with aggressive death metal mixing modern and classic styles. This is particularly true in their fourth studio album, ‘Blood Sacrifice’, the first to be released after the Dutchmen signed a record deal with Emanzipation.

The album is aptly led by a great concept: During the 1800s, in a rural area of the US, a priest leads the congregation of a small village. He is obsessed with the sins of the people around him. He is convinced he has direct conversations with god, and this drives him to see the actions of his own family as sinful. In visions, he sees the destruction of heaven and the victory of the forces of hell if he lets the sinning going on. With this in mind, he decides to end the sins by killing his own family. In the end, he ends up in an insane asylum surrounded by only sinners and driven completely mad.

Blood Sacrifice will be released in digital, LP, and CD formats by Emanzipation Productions on the 3rd September 2021.

A concept that fits the music, Bloodphemy bring horrifying ferocity to the forefront of the mind with Blood Sacrifice. Primordial death metal that cuts through the fat and renders the flesh as only harbingers of destruction are capable of.

With an urgency that suggest impending doom and consuming darkness, Bloodphemy play like their lives depended on it. Or maybe it’s our lives. Either way, the 11 tracks of Blood Sacrifice feel charmingly malevolent.

It’s more than just being savage though.

Bloodphemy capture the story they wish to tell really well, the grime of such a horrifying tale and the descent into madness comes through strongly. Forcefully attacking with all their might. The guitars deliver whip lashings across the body, the drums are bludgeoning blows and the vocals demand your penance. Get down on your knees and beg for forgiveness.
