Dr. Dead (vocals) and his Zombies (Tommy Kemp – guitars, Patient 0 – bass, and Victor Hilltop – drums) are back with a brand-new theatrical listen. One that comes with an undead tongue jammed firmly in an undead cheek and proves to be a ton of fun.

A trip to a twisted carnival is in order as The Circus is in Town. Dominum unleashing a horror-laden slice of anthemic heaviness that is playfully dark but also shows off cinematic grandeur. Dominum have gone big and really upped their theatrical side in the process. Which I, personally, find quite appealing. Especially when paired with the sound of modern metal.

Take Doctor Doctor and Children of the Night, both of which are hooky as hell and feature choruses that you just want to singalong to but have plenty of bite. This is Dominium leaning heavily into the macabre, but in a cheesy way, sort of. I’m not disputing their authenticity, not when they’re bringing forth bangers like Nosferatu. Which is one hell of an entrancing track. But they’re not taking themselves too seriously, and I think the album’s the better for it.

I admire their ambition, and for me, the middle part of the album shows just how potent that ambition is. Not just with huge and infectious sounding tracks like Dark Melodies, Jack the Ripper, and Devil’s Son, but by teaming up with heavy metal heavyweights, Battle Beast on Night is Calling, and by covering one of the most iconic songs ever, Michael Jackson’s Thriller. I kid you not. Is it any good? I think it will divide, but I don’t mind it even if there’s a bit of a cheese overload.

If you’re struggling to find something you like about the album by this stage, you’re probably not going to find anything in the latter section either. Even though I think there’s plenty of creativity still to be found. Though I Don’t Drink Wine isn’t one of them, even though I do get a bit of a kick out of how simple the chorus is. Happily, for me at least, Endzeit is the kind of bombastic ending that gets my feet stomping, my fist pumping, and my head banging.

Though if you want a bit more, the album features two acoustic efforts of previously released music. Namely Don’t Get Bitten By The Wrong Ones and Hey Living People, which is cool. Still, I think the album without these is more than enough to please their fanbase and, undoubtably, win them even more.

After all, who doesn’t want to join the most ghoulish party in the world?
