Video Premiere: Aeons Abyss – The Magician
Aeons Abyss have been working non-stop refining their work since 2017 to bring their most character defining music yet, Terror Manifest. This is far from a typical death metal album, it is full of intriguing occult themes and subversion of expectations ranging from melodic death metal to experimental thrash grind. Expect an experience where technicality meets story as each distinct track reveals it’s treasures to the listener.
This is a band that has always incorporated hefty themes and commentary into their music, whether it’s a whole album or a standalone single, and Terror Manifest is no exception. The tracks each represent a card from the deck of Tarot and what these characters mean, not just to the individual, but to all of society as we currently know it. There’s talk of defiant bloodbaths and revolution. Terror Manifest explores what the world has made of us, and what acts of terror must be done to end the mental imprisonment thrusted upon us by the greed of nations.
Terror Manifest will be having a wide launch on November 5th that will include all digital platforms, limited runs on vinyl, CD and cassette, as well as long sleeve shirts and a very special and unique piece of merch: A deck of Terror Manifest tarot cards.

While the band officially formed in 2017, the roots of Aeons Abyss go back decades to a band of high school friends inspired by the old death metal classics of the 80s like Morbid Angel and Obituary. They played under the name of Cataclysm. These visions remained a consistent ambition and driving force in the life of the band’s members. In 2017 Steven O’Brien reconnected with Paul O’Brien (no relation) to enter the modern death metal scene with their own voice.
What followed was their debut EP Pity Eloquence, with Steven handling the music, and Paul contributing vocals through highly thematic lyrics. This also kickstarted their promotion approach which is highly motivated and based on research, paving the way for the successful underground debut LP Impenitent in 2019 which presents a clear and refined version of their style. After a lot of great feedback and plenty of support from the underground in the way of successful merch sales, Aeons Abyss only became further motivated to improve on their work ethic and presentation.
This lust for creation and the desire to network in the music scene lead to 2020 and the collaborative stand-alone single The Great Hanging featuring vocal contributions from Shanon of Brisbane titans Eternal Rest and Brazilian guitar wizard Rogers Rocha of Savagez / Deep Hatred. Aeons Abyss released a second stand-alone single in 2020 as a social media collab and homage to second-wave black metal, the single was titled Thaumaturgy from the Realm of All Slaughter. Steven also began to make several contributions to the metal music journalism world with various columns on metal websites and appearances on podcasts. As with every step in their career, Aeons Abyss are constantly looking to push themselves to the next level, and so in preparation for their best work yet, for the new album Terror Manifest, the band recruited additional live members, Brett Saw, Leigh Boyd and James O’Brien to bring the music into the physical world in a visceral way. While these new members were not a part of the writing process for Terror Manifest, they will surely have an impact on the future of the band.
