Static Abyss – Labyrinth Of Veins

Following on from the announcement from Autopsy’s Chris Reifert and Greg Wilkinson, that they have joined forces to create a new mouthpiece for a rotten age – Static Abyss and their debut studio album entitled Labyrinth Of Veins will be let loose on Peaceville on 22nd April. The duo have premiered a new lyric video, created by Matthew Vickerstaff, for the album’s title track.

The methodical doom and death sound of this track will make the body quiver. Static Abyss digging deep into the graves of the old ones to reanimate rotten and death-bringing corpses. The guitars and drums are the weight that crushes the bones and body but the vocals, almost spoken-word, add the jellifying impact. Pure doom intensity.

Spoiler – Modern Messiah

Essex-based modern metalcore outfit Spoiler have released a brand-new single called ’Modern Messiah’.

The single encapsulates the dangers of the development of technology, losing yourself and becoming beholden to that in which one creates. The questions are raised – what happens when AI becomes smarter than the human brain? Will the wrong people get their hands on such powerful technologies for personal or power gains, placing their priorities outside of the greater good?

‘Modern Messiah’ is the first of four new singles for 2022, all which will release via BloodBlast Distribution (Nuclear Blast, Believe).

The brutal energy and thumping aggression that greets at the start of this new single will put a big smile on the faces of those who enjoy heavy. Infusions of electronica as it goes on, a scathing vocal delivery and riffs that cut like a serrated blade makes it even more intense. Spoiler stomp around with the ferocity of deathcore but continue to impress with a catchiness that shouldn’t exists in a song this meaty. Check it out here.

Rïot-Eye – U Got It

Manchester/Stoke-On-Trent based sleaze punk band, Rïot-Eye have released a new single called ‘U Got it’.

The explosive shouted vocals at the start will certainly snap the attention in place. Rïot-Eye then settling down into a groovy, punk-infused and sleaze heavy rhythm that is perfectly encapsulated by the foot-tapping and head-moving chorus. As the track progresses the beat gets peppier and don’t be surprised if your entire body is moving come the end with the frantic energy. Check it out here.

Artefacts – Nephereth

What can only be described as an epic movie score fused with thundering guitars, blistering drums and haunting screams, Artefacts combines the bombast of a symphonic orchestra with the darkness of black metal, while adding a progressive touch. Artefacts have released their new single, Nephereth.

Good gods, this is epic. The glorious vocals and atmosphere that introduces the track, the guitar and drum jabs, the building explosivity that you can feel growing, and the eventual measured eruption of black metal is simply phenomenal. Artefacts showcase a familiar but fresh style of symphonic black metal and deliver one of 2022’s grandest listens.

Back on Earth – Better Off

Better Off is the new track from pop-punk band Back on Earth. Inspired by All Time Low and Simple Creatures, Better Off is a positive song about taking back control over your life.

Upbeat, smile-inducing and so very catchy. Back on Earth make great music that is so very feel-good but they may have outdone themselves here. Why? The freaking 80’s inspired synth. Aside from that, it’s pure pop-punk gold that will make you feel a bit nostalgic but isn’t forcibly channelling a classic sound. Even the most miserable person in the world would struggle to not crack a smile upon hearing this. Check it out here.

Haunted by Silhouettes – Selkie

Norwegian melodic death metal band Haunted By Silhouettes have premiered another music video, this time for their latest single “Selkie” which features Björn Strid on guest vocals. “Selkie” is the second single from the band’s new EP which is set to drop worldwide on May 6, 2022.

If there’s one thing that stands out more than anything else on this track, it is the melodic side of Haunted by Silhouettes’ melodic death metal sound. Though, that’s not to play down the absolute fiery beast that the heaviness unleashes. It’s just the clean-sung chorus, the emotive drop that follows and guest vocals of Björn Strid sounds so damn good. No complaints to be had, this is a melo-death banger. Check it out here.

The Dark Alamorté – Unforgiving Sorrow

Blackened-death metallers The Dark Alamorté have released their new single ‘Ungiving Sorrow’. The track is the second to be released from their upcoming record Lunacrium Thepsis, since signing to Unique Leader Records.

As much as this track is focused on unforgiving brutality, it should be noted that it has some really notable flair and atmosphere that makes it sound far grander than you would expect. Though, that doesn’t overshadow what is a simply eye-watering level of blackened-death ruthlessness. You’ll feel the sharpness in your soul, feel the weight bearing down on the neck and be dragged into hellish depths with the atmospheric touches.

Motherhood – Ripped Sheet

The New Brunswick-based avant-rock trio, Motherhood return with their new single, Ripped Sheet. The new single also comes with the announcement of a new album, Winded which is out June 24, 2022, through Halifax-based label, Forward Music Group and follows 2019’s Dear Bongo.

A little over 2-minutes, you wouldn’t necessarily think Motherhood would be able to leave a big impression in such a short time, but you’d be wrong. Ripped Sheet leaves a very big impression because it’s very bassy, very punky, very energetic and most importantly, very weird. It’s also very enjoyable. Check it out here.

Palps – Love, Always

Love, Always is the latest single from Essex-based rock four-piece Palps. Taken from their upcoming album ‘Black Heart’ due later this year, this is Palps most ambitious work to date. Black Heart sees the band turn their eight-track album into a harrowing eight-chapter short film and story which highlights the daily struggles of someone navigating their poor mental health and how it affects not only them but everyone around them.

Heartfelt and powerful, Palps create a sonic journey in the short amount of time with this new single. One that features emotive vocals and melody, energetic rockiness and some really effective lyrical content. It’s one of those wonderful tracks that you can tap your foot to, but also feel things while listening. The latter part, with the group singing, might be one of the most impressive things about the track. Check it out here.

Last Wishes – Loyalty

Bursting out of the UK hardcore scene, Last Wishes share their robust new single ‘Loyalty’ from their upcoming album, Organized Hate. Set for release on April 29th on DAZE (US) and The Coming Strife (UK).

As hardcore as hardcore can be, Loyalty is a stompy and groovy pit-filler that burns brightly with pointed aggression and an in-your-face message. It’s a track that hits hard but has an innate catchiness that only rock-solid hardcore can deliver. The drop at the end will kill someone in the pit. Check it out here.

Watain – We Remain

Swedish black metal collective Watain are proud to unveil the third and final single from their upcoming new studio album, The Agony & Ecstasy Of Watain, which will be released on April 29th 2022. The song is called ‘We Remain’ and it represents the deepest shadow of the album, a profound contemplation on the winding abyss of the past.

Erik Danielsson (vocals) comments:

I begun writing “We Remain” in 2012, as a meditation on the concept of Mythopoeia; our mythical origins and how our understanding and approach to them is shaped and transformed throughout time. The lyric is built around the five elemental wings of the Pentagram, and the mysteries embedded in that ancient symbol. It is a song about forgotten things that ought to be remembered, the search for truths that were lost, of the ever burning flame that illuminates the darkness of times immemorial, the passing of aeons and and our ponderable place therein.

This is Watain at their darkest. Watain at the most evil and twisted sound. Watain at their most elaborate and atmospheric. It is the sound of a band confident that detailed builds will hold the attention of those waiting for a more familiar explosion of nastiness. Which, of course, is exactly what we get. Though, being nearly 8-minutes long, it should come as no surprise that this is a track with a lot more to offer. The end result, a devilish bout of darkness that really builds anticipation for this new album.
