Today’s single slam features Shadows Fall, Cwfen, Hidden Mothers x Tayne, Beth Blade & The Beautiful Disasters, and Signs of the Swarm. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.
Shadows Fall – Souls Devoured
Metal titans Shadows Fall continue with their thunderous return with the release of their brand-new single, ‘Souls Devoured’. The track arrives just ahead of their highly anticipated tour dates with fellow Massachusetts metal heavyweights Killswitch Engage and marks a fierce new chapter in the band’s legacy.
Age isn’t blunting their intensity in the slightest, and it’s interesting to hear a more evolved style, especially as it comes with a bit more metal oomph. It’s not the most anthemic track they’ve ever released, but there are moments where they deliver some of that classic Shadows Fall catchiness. It’s a meaty number, and its strength comes from the fact it has weight and girth behind it.
Cwfen – Bodies
Glasgow’s Cwfen (pronounced ‘Coven’) will release their debut album ‘Sorrows’ on 30th May via New Heavy Sounds (MWWB, Death Pill, Shooting Daggers). As the release date edges ever closer, the band has shared the latest single, ‘Bodies’.
This debut album is shaping up to be very special, and I already thought that based off the previous brilliant single. Then along comes this hauntingly heavy, darkly tinged, doom-infused gothic nightmare of a track. An absolute powerhouse of brilliance that really gets under the skin. A near seven-minute effort, one as textured as this, shouldn’t be so immediately listenable, but that’s just part of what makes Cwfen such an incredible band. Hear this song, you’ll be head over heels in love with them once you do. Check it out here.
Hidden Mothers x Tayne – Bitter Life
Hidden Mothers & Tayne have joined together to do a reimagining of the Hidden Mothers track ‘Violet Sun’ (from their 2024 debut LP ‘Erosion / Avulsion’). This new version makes for a whole different vibe from the original, hence it having its own title of ‘Bitter Life’.
Two brilliant bands, one brilliant song, there’s no real way this team-up could go wrong, and to the surprise of no one really, Bitter Life is amazing. Not only unique sounding, but enjoyable eccentric, emphatically clever, charming, pretty, and challenging. More Tayne, more Hidden Mothers, blended together to create something so damn rich. Beth Blade & The Beautiful Disasters – Never Let It Go
British rockers Beth Blade & The Beautiful Disasters have returned with a brand-new single. ‘Never Let It Go’, which released on May 1st, is the band’s first release since their 2022 album ‘Mythos, Confession, Tragedies and Love’, and will act as a precursor to their upcoming new album, set for release on September 12th.
Speaking about the band’s new material, Blade said:
It’s been a long time coming. Our new album is finally seeing the light of day on September 12th, and we are so excited to share it with you and whilst I can’t yet divulge too much, there is laughter, unadulterated fun, rock and roll spirit and a vintage flair that never goes out of style. There’s also pain, fear, vulnerability and depths so dark they may make old wounds ache. More to come on that…
It’s a scary world, so right now so we felt like we all deserved a little light heartedness, the first single ‘Never Let Go’ out May 1st makes me think of sunshine and open roads, living in the moment, falling in love, staying up all night and singing until you’re hoarse, reminiscing on the times you’ve shared with your people. Nostalgia can remind you why you felt the magic in the first place. That feeling isn’t something we should give up and it’s why we should never let go…
Exciting times and it kicks off with a likable piece of music. One that has a brightness to it, but one that comes with a nostalgic tint. It’s a rock and roll banger with a delightfully anthemic chorus, sweet through and through, but with that notable Beth Blade & The Beautiful Disasters relatable vein running though it. Check it out here.
Signs of the Swarm – HELLMUSTFEARME
On August 22nd, Pittsburgh titans Signs of the Swarm will release their sixth full-length, ‘To Rid Myself of Truth’, via Century Media Records. The first preview, ‘HELLMUSTFEARME’, is out now.
Coming out of the gates hot, Signs of the Swarm make sure we all know that this new album is going to be extremely heavy. Not only that, but it’s coming with violent intentions, showing off even more deathcore savagery than normal. It’s a wild effort, and its intensity is encapsulated in a breakdown that will make you gurn with pleasure. Filth, but the kind of filth we all love to wallow in.
