Single Slam: Khemmis, The Fismits, Collapse the Sky, Witchsorrow, Sixth Wonder, and Evergrey!
Today’s single slam features Khemmis, The Fismits, Collapse the Sky, Witchsorrow, Sixth Wonder, and Evergrey. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.
Khemmis – Beneath the Scythe
Khemmis continue the march toward their towering new self-titled album with the release of ‘Beneath the Scythe,’ the latest single from the Denver heavy metal institution’s massively anticipated fifth full-length, due out June 12th via Nuclear Blast Records.
Commenting on the new single, guitarist/vocalist Ben Hutcherson states:
‘Beneath the Scythe’ is a track wherein all four of us just it rip. Dueling guitar solos? Check. Ripping drum fills? Check. A beautiful bass solo over a haunting, atmospheric interlude? Check! In some ways, “Scythe” feels like “classic Khemmis,” but we made sure that the song took the listener on a journey unlike anything we’ve done before. As always, this tune is best enjoyed at high volume while holding an ice-cold beverage in a room adorned with posters of Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden, and At the Gates (RIP Tompa!).
Pretty much delivering everything that a person could want from a Khemmis song, this new single is a crowd pleaser. A track with an old-school lean, filled with modern hooks, and proving to be overall, effortlessly infectious. It’s far from the most bright and brilliant thing the band has ever produced, but as far as being a lovable head banger goes, there can be no complaints.
The Fismits – Independence
South African indie-alternative rock project The Fismits return with their new single and video ‘Independence’, the second from their forthcoming EP ‘Falling Joy’, due 26th June.
What year is it? You might have to check a few times once you hit play on this experimental retro indie banger. Where 80s rock flavours mesh with funky electronic textures and there’s a light film of psychedelia lying over everything. It’s a very unique listen, but one that isn’t going to be for everyone. Check it out here.
Collapse the Sky – Welcome | Death
Metalcore band Collapse the Sky are back with a brand new single and music video called ‘Welcome | Death’. This is the first single release from their new EP that will be out towards the autumn.
Having been around a while now, it’s really heartening to hear Collapse the Sky continue to experiment with their metalcore sound while not losing the sense of epic intensity that permeates a lot of what they do. This is a very layered track, where darkness flows thickly from within, yet it retains a thrilling infectious quality. It’s one hell of a compelling head banger capped off with a very cool guitar solo.
Witchsorrow – Bacchus
Doom metal band Witchsorrow will releaseds their new album ‘The Devil and All His Works’ via Church Road Records on July 3rd, 2026. The lead single and video ‘Bacchus’ is out now.
They’re back and bloody hell, is it a return to take note of. From the start, this track oozes dread. Witchsorrow creating a disconcerting environment, only to unleash a crashing cacophony of heavy doom that is as devilish as it is dramatic, and it’s really damn dramatic. Be prepared to get lost in it. Check it out here.
Sixth Wonder – IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT FROM ME?
Sixth Wonder return with their most uncompromising release to date, ‘IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT FROM ME?’ It is the personal documentation of vocalist Rebekah Kirk’s journey back from vocal loss.
Kirk shares:
IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT FROM ME? Tells my real, personal story of losing my voice due to COVID-19 shortly after our debut. It discusses the mental and physical struggle it took, the fear of having your world changed potentially forever, and the empowerment of pushing through and retraining with rehabilitation to build a better, stronger and healthier voice. ITWYWFM speaks on the fears associated with loss, the replacement of anger and overcoming a struggle against all odds.
Not just a track that features an incredible story, but a track that expresses the intense feelings that must have been present throughout that terrifying period. It’s filled with vitriolic power, anger and frustration seeping through, but it’s also a call to arms. Where the overriding statement is that anyone and everyone can overcome the odds, if they just believe in themselves. If you’re going to Radar Festival, they’re unmissable. Check it out here.
Evergrey – Leaving the Emptiness
Swedish progressive metal masterminds Evergrey have released ‘Leaving the Emptiness’, the latest single from their new album, ‘Architects of a New Weave’, out 5th June, 2026 via Napalm Records.
Tom S. Englund about the new single ‘Leaving the Emptiness’:
Our new single is a high-energy firecracker that makes you want to jump—we know, because we just played it in Brazil twice and people were more in the air than on the ground. But don’t let the adrenaline fool you. Underneath the surge is something rawer—a song about the moment you stop running from what hurts and finally turn to face it. ‘Leaving The Emptiness’ hits hard because it earns it. The tension between the euphoric, major-key drive and the weight of the lyrics is completely intentional—we want you to feel joy and ache at the same time, because that’s what it actually feels like to face your demons and come out the other side. We also made a video that matches that energy in every way, and we genuinely cannot wait for you to see it. If you’ve ever stood in a crowd and felt the music pull something out of you that you didn’t know was still there—for us, this is that song.
At this point in time, Evergrey really have nothing left to prove and can, rightfully, do whatever they want. So, it’s no surprise that they’ve decided to create a happy song, and it is hilariously fun and delightfully catchy. It’s defiantly not them, but also clearly them too, you really should check it out and make up your own mind. Personally, I really dig it.
