Is It Possible to Earn Money From Gaming?

As with all hobbies, if you’re passionate enough about it you can make money from it. Gaming is no different, there are many ways to make money from gaming as long as the time and effort are put into it. Although not an easy task at all, it is the dream for many gamers to be paid a sustainable amount for something they will already do or love doing. Here are four ways you can make money from gaming.

Streaming:

There are many platform options if you want to start streaming yourself playing video games, such as Twitch, YouTube Gaming, and Facebook Gaming. Streaming is a good way to show off your skills in your favourite games. Each platform has its own way for streamers to make money such as donations, subscriptions, ads, etc. Although these options pay streamers, they are not the most sustainable way of getting paid. Streamers will want to strive for the bigger payouts such as sponsorships from brands to advertise their products or service on the streamer’s own platform for their influence and community. This means that when you’re popular enough, big payouts will come as you grow as a streamer.

YouTube Gaming Videos:

Similar to streaming, the slight difference would be that your content is not live but you record, edit, and upload for viewers to watch at their own leisure. This does require a lot of work so don’t think content creators ever have it easy. The same principles of streaming apply in terms of pay, unless you’re YouTube partnered; the criteria in 2021 are:

  • To have the YouTube partner program available in your country
  • Have more than 4,000 valid public watch hours in the last 12 months
  • Have more than 1,000 subscribers
  • Have a linked AdSense account

Only then can you monetize your videos with ads. By this time, if you have around 10,000 views on each video within a month, you can reach out to brands for sponsorships, which is where the big payout comes in.

Watching The Pros and Practice:

There are many ways you can win money as you hone your skills in other activities, like video games based on analogue games that require strategic thinking skills such as poker or chess. Playing video games not only helps with reflexes and brain function, but by watching others play and practicing with other players online or even against AI-controlled players, you can learn new ways to play in tournaments. Many tournaments have huge prize pools from big brand sponsorships.

Gaming Tournaments:

Esports has been on the rise for many years now. It has a huge fan base and community. Competitive gaming has always been huge since the early days of games like Counterstrike, a first-person PC shooter. There have been many games now that threw their hat into the esports world such as Fortnite, League of Legends, StarCraft, and many more. These tournaments are sponsored by huge brands so If you’re good enough at these games, the prize pools can be life-changing.

As gaming goes, making a career out of it will not be easy. It will require time, effort, and dedication to make it work and earn rewards.
