Interview: Schëppe Siwen (Written)
Schëppe Siwen, the folk-punk rockers recently released their latest album, ‘Richtung Fräiheet’ and are planning a busy 2025. In this interview we get to know them a little better.
1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat with us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.
We’re Schëppe Siwen, a ten-piece Folkpunk storm from Luxembourg. We started with a shared love for chaos and melody, fusing the anger of punk with the soul of folk. Add some brass, accordion, and a violin that can start a riot, and you’ve got us. The first spark? A jam session for St Patrick’s Day that spiraled into a movement.
2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?
Imagine if a pirate ship crashed into a punk club, then the survivors threw a folk party with instruments they salvaged. That’s us. High-energy, danceable, rebellious, and loud enough to wake the neighbors.
3. What’s currently going on in your camp? New releases? Tours? Etc.
Oh, it’s all happening. We’ve just dropped our biggest project yet: our new album “Richtung Fräiheet” (Towards Freedom). It’s a wild ride through freedom and rebellion. We’re gearing up for a massive 2025 tour with fresh merch and a show that’ll blow your socks off. Next stop? An explosive folkpunk party together with a German Celtic Punk band on April 5th 2025 at an old slaughterhouse.
4. What has been the most positive experience of making music to date for you?
Celebrating big parties with our people, during and after our concerts.
5. Likewise, what have been some of the more challenging aspects, and how have you overcome them?
Balancing ten strong personalities with one unified vision isn’t exactly a walk in the park. But we’ve learned that communication, good beer, and shared victories are the secret sauce. Oh, and our sound engineer is practically a wizard (if he has a good day).
6. How do you handle the modern expectations of being in a band? Always online, having to put out content constantly, your success measured in likes and follows?
We focus on creating moments that resonate. Sure, we’re online (you’ve seen our hoodie, right?), but at the end of the day, it’s the real connections — live shows, shared laughs, and crowd sing-alongs — that keep us going. The numbers? They follow the passion.
7. What’s something that really ‘grinds your gears’ about the industry/business these days, and what would you propose is done to combat it?
The obsession with algorithms over artistry. Music isn’t a TikTok trend or a Spotify algorithm — it’s culture, history, and storytelling. Let’s amplify artists who pour their souls into their craft, not just their reels.
8. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support your music?
Simple: show up. Buy a ticket, grab some merch, and blast our songs wherever you can. Spread the word, bring a friend, and be part of the crew.
9. Outside of the music, what do you do to relax?
We’re either out exploring or enjoying a good meal together. Some of us have secret hobbies—ask about our guitarists drawing skills sometime.
10. Where can people find you?
Anywhere the party’s loud and the people are alive! But if you’re searching online: http://www.scheppesiwen.com with all the links to our social media platforms
