Interview: Lost Dogs of Ultimo (Written – 2025)
Having recently released their new single ‘Spanish Fly with Jazz Minero’, we catch up with Lost Dogs of Ultimo and find out what they’ve been up to since we last spoke.
1. Hello! Welcome back. It’s been a little while, so first things first, how are you and have there been any significant changes since we last spoke?
Hi thanks for having us back yes we have been busy writing and building our village of artist and musicians with Kymin Kaos from Blood In The Champagne and Spanish artist Jazz Minero.
2. So, what’s new? What’s keeping you busy this time around? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?
We have just released our new single Spanish Fly with Jazz Minero. We started work on Spanish Fly about six months ago so our time has been filled building our relationship gaining strength in our creative processes.
3. Describe what fans/listeners can expect.
We were playing around in our studio mixing up samples of obscure noises. We found these couple of samples running through effects searching for a deep blues vibe with some crazy distorted bass pumping the mix as it hangs on to a solid back beak. So what we ended up with was a very unique combination of sounds which is going be an incredible live sound when we get to perform it soon.
4. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you to see it come to fruition?
This project came about from a casual conversation over the internet about bands we both really got into when we were younger like Radio Birdman Hardons Cosmic psychos all Australian Punk. Jazz Minero and our collective inspirations were on the same wavelength and that’s what is so cool about music and art it brings people together and that means a lot to me and this project and the people that play a huge part of it
5. Sum up what this latest development says about you and where you find yourself at this moment in time?
I find myself excited about where this is going right now making great connections around the world working with musicians from Canada Texas and Spain as well as some great Australian musicians and artists too.
6. Has the time since we last spoke been a mostly positive period and has there been any one thing that stands out as being good?
I find it it hard to personally reflect on that because I enjoy all parts of this experience but to find that one good thing is sharing a studio with great friends I feel right at home in that environment and privileged when I get to do it.
7. How about something that has challenged you since we last spoke? Has there been any particular thing that tested you, and if so, how did you overcome it?
As producer working with a non English vocal that was something I’ve wanted to do for while because I love hearing the voice as an instrument and finding the right place to sit key parts of the vocal into a mix that was a wonderful challenge.
8. What is a realistic goal you’d like to achieve over the next 12 months?
My realistic goal is to enjoy the opportunities that come from this project. It has been a big part of all our lives the last couple of years. We all want the same outcomes and would like to achieve some of them this year.
