Interview: Insult (Written)

Brit metal crew, Insult, will release their explosive debut album, ‘Reside Infernus’, on Friday 23rd May, 2025. In this interview, we get to know the band a little better courtesy of guitarist, Jonny.

1. Hello Insult! What a time to be alive it is, as the release date for your debut album, ‘Reside Infernus’, creeps forward. A very long time coming, tell me please, what does it mean to you to release this record?

I feel very proud of the music we have written for this album and hope it is well received by the fans.

2. When you first set out to create this record, what did the vision look like, and did you have a clear direction you wanted to go in?

We were planning on writing a punk/metal album but as time went on the songs became more intricate and dynamic.

3. Did have any issues defining just who and what Insult were in the modern day?

The band has it’s roots in punk rock so it has changed now into a punk/metal band.

4. The early creative days, what was particularly exciting about them for you?

Having a clear canvas to create anything we wanted to felt very freeing.

5. You’ve mentioned not relying on ‘automated tools’ to produce this record. What were some of the positives of doing it this way?

I think it gives the album a more natural feel and hopefully more interesting for the listener.

6. Why is authenticity so important to you?

Music seems to have become a bit too polished today and as a result it has lost some of the realism of a band just playing a song.

7. It, of course, creates challenges too. What were some of the more challenging moments of being in the studio?

During a take if we messed anything up we then had to go back to the start of the track and re-record it again which is time consuming but it’s how we like to do it.

8. What do you think this record says about Insult?

Hopefully fans will appreciate the different moods and dynamics of the album and see we are a band capable of writing simple and complex riffs.

9. What would success for the record look like?

Recognition of the album in the music press and on social media and of course best of all fans coming to see us play live and singing the songs back to us.

10. Sum up the last few years for Insult. What’s been some of the high and lows?

I personally struggle being in groups of people so it’s been a huge challenge for me but I feel so passionate about this album and the band that I chose to face my inner fears and instead follow my dream.

11. What is so exciting about the future of Insult for you, and do you have any particular goals you’d like to achieve this year?

Just being in the band is exciting as there is always a lot of energy and banter. I am very excited about playing live shows this year and my goal is to play some of the big metal music festivals.

12. What do you get out of playing live?

It’s all about the crowd reaction and the huge adrenaline rush which makes me feel alive. It’s like having electricity running through the veins, there is nothing else like it.
