Interview: Getting to Know Hole in the Frame

Southern Italian crossover metal band, Hole in the Frame, are busy working on a new album, but in the meantime, we get to know them a little better via this interview.

1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.

Hi guys, thanks for this interview!

We are Hole in the Frame, a crossover groove metal band formed in 2015 in Southern Italy. We created the band as an artistic way to express our struggle against the system and social conformity. Over the years, we have released three studio albums and one live album, and we continue to write and produce new music.

2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?

Our music can be described as crossover groove metal. We draw inspiration from bands such as Korn, Metallica, Slipknot, and Pantera. At the same time, we always try to bring something fresh and original to our work.

3. What’s currently keeping you busy? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?

At the moment, we are working on our new album. We also have several live shows scheduled for this summer and autumn.

4. What is about this current period that is particularly exciting for you?

We are very excited because we have just released the first single from our upcoming album. The track was produced by Fabrizio Grossi, a renowned producer based in Los Angeles.

5. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you.

The band is made up of musicians who live in different cities across Italy. Despite the distance, thanks to our constant commitment and dedication, we always manage to keep the project moving forward and create new music together.

6. Making music and being creative can be a very positive experience and can be very good for the mind. In what way has making music had a positive impact on your mental health?

Making music has a positive impact on our mental health because it allows us to break away from our daily routine and express our artistic potential to the fullest. It also helps us relax while giving us a way to actively challenge today’s capitalist system.

7. It can also be incredibly challenging, more so in the modern times. What have been some challenging aspects of making music and how have you overcome them?

For us, making music can be challenging because we live in different cities. However, modern technology allows us to constantly share new ideas and collaborate remotely. We are also always willing to travel in order to perform live.

8. How do you handle the online aspects of being in a band? Having to put out content constantly, promoting across several different social media platforms, and having your success measured in likes and follows?

For musicians of our generation, having our success measured by likes and followers can be quite discouraging. Unfortunately, we have had to adapt to the realities of today’s music industry.

9. How do you make this part of things enjoyable, and fulfilling, for yourself?

I’m not sure there is much that is truly enjoyable about it. Perhaps the main advantage is that social media gives us the opportunity to reach a much larger audience than would have been possible in the past.

10. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support you?

We would ask listeners to dedicate a moment of their time to our music. In the middle of a busy day, take a break and listen to one of our songs. It can be a moment for reflection and a chance to disconnect from the pressures of everyday life.

11. Outside of music, what do you like to do to relax?

We enjoy spending time with friends, reading, traveling, and drinking beer.
