Interview: Cober Mouth (Written)

Much-rated Brit newcomers Cober Mouth deliver deeply drenched grooves, colossal riffs, and an unrelenting intensity through both sound and emotion. They continue their swift ascent armed with their towering new single and video, ‘Steride’, out now. In this interview we get to know them a little better.

1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat with us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.

Cober Mouth was unveiled after about five years of development, evolving from our teenage band, Black Leaves of Envy, into something that truly represents our style. We’ve always loved making music together, and there was never any doubt that we’d continue. The version of the band you see today came from a lot of self-reflection—asking ourselves, “What music do we actually want to hear?”

2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?

A crushing mix of nu-metal and metalcore. Groove-driven, aggressive, and built to hit hard live.

3. What’s currently keeping you busy? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?

We’re constantly working on new music, playing shows, and refining our sound. Our latest single, STERIDE, just dropped, and it’s a rage-fueled track born out of frustration. We’ve taken more of the release work into our own hands too, only outsourcing some engineering and PR related tasks. We’re always planning for future releases and live performances, and we’re currently on a set of weekender shows to support our Double A-Side release, III: DARK AS IT GETS.

4. What is it about this current period that is particularly exciting for you?

We’ve had support from BBC Radio One and Kerrang!, which is unreal. But what’s most exciting is knowing that people are resonating with our music. It sets a high bar for us moving forward.

5. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you.

Everything we do is built on genuine passion. We write what we love and push ourselves with each release. Whether it’s refining our sound, developing our live show, or incorporating new elements, we put in the time to make it something worth hearing and experiencing.

6. Making music and being creative can be a very positive experience and can be very good for the mind. In what way has making music had a positive impact on your mental health?

Our music is an outlet for everything we don’t say out loud. Our live shows are intense because that’s where all the frustration, anger, and energy go. It’s a release—when I walk offstage drenched in sweat, I’ve vented a year’s worth of problems in five seconds.

7. It can also be incredibly challenging, more so in modern times. What have been some challenging aspects of making music and how have you overcome them?

One of the biggest challenges is seeing people with so much potential throw it away. STERIDE was written out of that frustration. On a practical level, keeping momentum as a self-managed band takes a lot—writing, recording, performing, promoting—there’s a lot on us. We push through by staying focused on what matters: making music we believe in.

8. How do you handle the online aspects of being in a band? Having to put out content constantly, promoting across several different social media platforms, and having your success measured in likes and follows?

Capturing everything we do has been a change of ethos that we’ve had to grapple with, but it’s now working in our favour. We treat social media as a tool, not a validation system. The recognition from major outlets has been amazing, but at the end of the day, we remind ourselves that it all came from writing music we love. The moment we let numbers dictate what we create, we lose.

9. How do you make this part of things enjoyable, and fulfilling, for yourself?

By keeping it real. We don’t overthink it—if we have something to say, we say it. If we have a great idea for a post, we run with it, trying not to think too much about conventions. The best way to enjoy it is to make it fun rather than a chore.

10. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support you?

If you like what we do, share it. Come to a show, bring a friend, add our tracks to your playlists, and keep engaging. Maybe buy some merch and vote with your dollars. That’s how we grow.

11. Outside of music, what do you like to do to relax?

Most things circle back to music in some way. Whether it’s discovering new bands, analyzing production, or working on our sound, it’s all part of the obsession. We do however have involvement in games and gaming (that includes video games, card games and sports).

12. Where can people find you?

We’re on all streaming platforms, and you can follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. If you want the best way to support us, come see us live—because that’s where Cober Mouth is at its rawest.
