Horror Short Review: This is Not a Test (2022)

Written and edited by Seth Denton-Hughes, This is Not a Test is a solid horror short that has plenty of atmosphere, some scares, and a suitably dark ending.

The story is really simple, a young man is at home in his apartment when a nationwide emergency is broadcast warning of a paranormal anomaly. The alert instructs everyone to stay inside, turn a light on, and to not open the door under any circumstances.

It’s a frightening experience for the man, but when someone knocks on his door begging to be let inside, it gets a lot worse. What would you do?

It could do with being a bit shorter and bit clearer, but for a weekend’s work, this is a very impressive watch. Seth Denton-Hughes has talent, and really makes nothing but darkness and silence seem so oppressive. Paying off the viewer’s investment with a cleverly showcased ‘monster’. It’s worth a watch.
