Horror Short Review: The Empty Room (2025)

A film by Ethan Hunt, The Empty Room is a tight horror short that stars Maya Morales, Jordan Geiger, and Hunt himself.

In it, a young woman wakes up to find herself in a strange room. She has no idea where she is or how she got there, and to make matters worse, a screen in front of her displays the message:

You’re not alone in this room. You can’t see it, but it will kill you.

Suddenly the darkness in the corners seems that little bit deeper. Follow all instructions and don’t make a sound. Which would be difficult at the best of times, but something made so much more difficult when you’re trapped with something sinister and unseen.

Thick atmosphere, creepy vibes, and a constant vein of tension running through it, The Empty Room is an excellent horror short that forces you to imagine what it would be like to be in the situation that the woman finds herself in. Would you obey all instructions, no matter what, or would you try the door handle, risking sound?
