Horror Short Review: Copy (2024)
Directed by Cameron Gallagher, written by Jeremiah Lewis, and starring Heather Frederick and Hunter Frederick, Copy is about a woman learning that the copier isn’t just for paper.
Heather has just found out that she is pregnant, and rather than feeling happy about it, she’s terrified. Why? She doesn’t want to turn out like her mother and put her child through the hell she experienced when she was younger. These are feelings she tells her sister via a phone call at work in an office.
Her sister does a great job of calming Heather, and they say their goodbyes. All Heather has to do now is lock up and go home. Which should be easy, after all she’s alone, right?
Blending psychological horror, in particular the long-term effects of trauma and abuse, with the fear of the unknown and what might lurk in the shadows. Copy is not only a frightening watch, but an uncomfortable one. Credit to Heather Frederick, who nails her role, being both sympathetic and realistic.
Perhaps the best thing about Copy is how it utilises the darkness to enhance oppressive feelings. Not just the darkness of reality though. There’s nothing scarier than what our minds can conjure up. Check this one out below.
