Horror Short Review: Backrooms (2026)
It never takes Alex Magaña, aka ACMofficial, long to capitalise on something mainstream with a horror short, and his version of Backrooms has dropped.

Written and directed by Alex Magaña, Backrooms stars Sarah Short as Claire, a woman on her way back to her car in a large underground car park. As she comes down the stairs, she finds herself unsettled but can’t quite work out why. Although the intercom voice declaring that certain areas are closed doesn’t help. Especially as the declared areas become impossibly blocked off.
It’s all very strange, and very surreal, which is certainly in keeping with Backrooms, especially the ending.

Credit where credit is due, this is Alex Magaña at his best. Changing enough of the ACMofficial formula, and staying true to the source material, while giving it his own twist. No jump scares, just tension building and a decent amount of discomfort showcased by a strong actor. It’s well worth a watch.
